Plastics

From our years of travel, we know that being abroad is one of the hardest places to reduce plastics. You’re making every effort to reduce your single use plastics at home, but then you have to buy water in plastic bottles on your adventures abroad. However, many communities we work with are also a lot more sustainable than us, as they source food locally (cutting down those food miles) and tend to sell their products ‘naked’ in local markets. We continue to learn from these cultures and aim to buy the food and drink you will consume in the most sustainable way and encourage you to eat local, to help us improve our environmental impact.

We’re continuing to make every effort to reduce single use (and other) plastics on our trips and in the communities that we work with.

Let’s talk about water bottles

One of the main contributors to plastic waste whilst abroad is water bottles. We can’t drink the local water so resort to buying plastic bottles whilst we’re away. At Green Light Ventures, we ask our volunteers to drink 2 litres of water per day on our trips, to stay hydrated and reduce the risks of illnesses. But we also don’t want to create that much plastic waste. So 100% of the water we give you will be from re-usable containers. And, we’ll give you a Green Light Ventures bottle to ensure you stay hydrated without creating waste.

Let’s talk about Periods.

Periods are a pain. And getting your period whilst you’re abroad can create waste. So, we provide all female volunteers with a reusable menstrual cup, or pad, that can be used on your trip. If you’ve not used them before, they take a while to get used to, but are a great alternative to single use products whilst you’re away!

Project Plastic

We also work with our local communities to collect and repurpose the plastic waste around them.
