Our love affair with plastic is taking a sour turn.
Even if we stopped producing plastics today, there is still a vast amount of plastic that litters our world.
Project Plastic aims to reduce the amount of impact that plastic has on the environment, by collecting historic plastic and working with local communities to repurpose the waste around them. In Tanzania, for example, a country renowned for it’s amazing wildlife, plastic is littered on the routes that elephants, giraffe and zebra take. Tanzania has taken a brave stand to ban single-use plastic bags, but historical plastic and plastic bottles still remain. Project Plastic aims to clear away this waste, repurpose it, and provide education on the importance of reducing and repurposing plastic.
How could you contribute in your adventure?
If Project Plastic is part of your volunteer itinerary, you could:
Volunteer to help clear up the existing plastic in the communities.
Work with locals as they repurpose the plastic to grow plants, build new community spaces and come up with new ways to repurpose the waste.
Help with education projects around reducing waste and littering in communities.
