Aimee and Rachel are partnering with Green Light Ventures, a sustainable tourism group in leading a select group of individuals through Tanzania. For two weeks from September 12-26th, we’ll inspire and educate attendees about the natural wonders of Tanzania, the power of traveling more sustainably and with purpose.
What does this trip mean for you?
It’s a chance to try something new. To discover a whole new place, understand and learn from different cultures, traditions and heritage. Additionally, it’s a chance to off-set your carbon footprint by planting trees, cleaning up plastic waste, and learning how to travel more sustainably and with purpose from industry experts.
This trip is for you if...
You’ve been itching to book a trip where you can give back, meet new people and explore a different country.
You want to learn more about how to support local communities and travel more sustainably but you don’t necessarily want to do it alone or have to plan it all on your own.
You want to bridge adventure and volunteering on a trip together.
You want to off-set your carbon footprint and learn about how to travel more sustainably.
Trip Highlights
Our activities are designed to ignite and inspire a new way of travel, to learn about a different culture, give back to the community, and explore another part of the world. Here’s an overview of what you can expect during the trip.
A 3-day Safari in the famous Serengeti and the opportunity to get up close and personal with Tanzania’s amazing wildlife. It wouldn’t be a complete trip without trying to spot the Big 5!
Seminars with Aimee + Rachel, focused on how to travel more sustainably, with purpose and to bring these aspects into your daily life.
Sink your carbon footprint through Project Plant!
Sleep under the stars with an overnight stay in the Massai bush with the local Maasai tribe.
Sustainable adventures, like cycle rides and a waterfall hike.
Be a part of a group of individuals committed to experiencing a different place, meeting new people, growing and learning alongside each other. We have very limited spots available. We do this in order to provide as much support as possible to each person on the trip as well as provide the opportunity to better connect with other individuals on the trip.
How is the trip sustainable?
Sink Your Carbon Footprint
You’ll take part in Project Plant, where you’ll aim to plant at least 50 trees during your trip, offsetting all of the carbon from your travels.
Reduce Plastic Everywhere
You’ll receive an 8-hour cool water bottle which you can fill up throughout the day to reduce your single use plastic. You’ll also take part in Project Plastic, which aims to clear plastic from animal crossing points, and re-purpose it into something more useful for the community.
Support Local Businesses + (Almost) Zero Food Miles
Most of the food you eat will be bought from local markets. The majority of the food found there is grown in the town, where rice, bananas and avocados (and more!) grow in abundance. We’ll also eat mostly plant-based meals. Any meat you do eat during the trip is bought from local herdsmen just down the road!
Meet Your Trip Leaders

Your 14-day Trip With Aimee + Rachel
Below is a day-by-day breakdown of what you can expect on the trip from Saturday, September 12th through Saturday, September 26th, 2020. Please note that some details are subject to change but we hope this gives you an idea of the trip!
Day 1: Arrival, Meet Aimee, Rachel and the GLV Team
Your sustainable adventure starts here! On day 1, you’ll be picked up from the airport and driven to the town, where you’ll meet Aimee, Rachel, and the team at Green Light Ventures. You’ll be given your 8-hour cool GLV water bottle to ensure you stay hydrated without contributing to single-use plastic waste!
Day 2: Travel to the Village, Wildlife Spotting + Seminar 1
After a good night’s sleep, we’ll kick off the adventure by traveling to the village where you’ll be staying for the majority of your time. The journey itself is a sight to be seen. The move from urban to rural takes you through amazing views of the Maasai bush land. If you’re lucky you may even spot elephants, giraffe and other wildlife on the way! We’ll then head up to a view point where you can start spotting some of the amazing wildlife that Tanzania houses!
In the evening, Aimee and Rachel will lead a discussion about sustainable travel.
Day 3: Cultural Tour and Maasai Market
The village is home to over 130 different tribal groups, meaning there’s a real mixture of culture to experience. We’ll go on a tour to see some of the differences and later head to the Maasai Market. Held weekly, these markets brings everyone from the local area together. The sights, sounds and smells are something you’re unlikely to experience elsewhere!
Day 4: Offset Your Carbon
Through Project Plant, you’ll work with our local women to plant trees to offset your carbon. The project mixes conservation with women empowerment, as the women are paid a small amount to keep the trees alive, giving them a small income!
Day 5: Waterfall Jungle Trek
This incredible hike up through the Great Rift Valley will be worth it when we reach the top. We’ll hike up through banana plantations and along the river to reach the unexpected waterfalls with spectacular views over the African Bush. Keep an eye out for monkeys, baboons and birdlife on the way!
Day 6-8: 3-Day Safari in the Serengeti
Your once in a lifetime sustainable adventure to Tanzania wouldn’t be complete without a Safari. We’ll be heading to the best known wildlife park in the world—the Serengeti!
Serengeti National Park is nearly 15,000 km of endless plains teaming with animal life that will not disappoint.
You’d be unlucky not to spot the Big 5 (Lion, Leopard, Rhino, Water Buffalo, Elephant) during this trip. It’s the perfect park for viewing cats and other predators, with groups of lions, cheetahs, leopards, hyenas, jackals and African hunting dogs—there will be no shortage of action.
In the evenings, we’ll camp in the plains of the Serengeti deep in the wild. This will be a true, real-deal camping experience.
Day 9: Tree Planting at a Local School
To make your trip carbon positive we’ll be planting even more trees! This time at a local school. The income they receive from tending to the trees will provide income for school supplies in the long term!
Day 10: Cycle Through Lake Manyara, National Park + Maasai Market
In the morning, we’ll head out on an amazing Safari Cycle through our local national park. Keep an eye out for zebras, wildebeests en-route, and flamingoes once we hit the lake!
In the afternoon, we’ll pay another visit to the Maasai Market. Do you dare to sample the local banana beer?
Day 11: Project Plastic
We’ll be lucky enough to be staying close to an elephant crossing point. Sadly, plastic litter has built up here so we’ll be working with the community to clear the plastic away and re-purposing it into something that can be used locally. Like this hanging herb garden (pictured), which provided income for a nearby school.
Day 12: Seminar 2, Maasai Bushcraft + Overnight Experience
We’ll kick off the day with a Seminar lead by Aimee and Rachel focused on traveling with purpose and the power of travel.
In the evening, we’ll head out to a local Maasai village. They’ll welcome us with one of their famous dances, and you might be asked to take part in it, too! They’ll teach us how to start a fire using the materials around us and then we’ll sleep under the incredible African stars. We’ll share stories and food around the fire and then drift off to the distant sound of lions roaring and hyenas cackling (don’t worry, the Maasai Warriors will keep us all safe!).
Day 13: Hot Springs
We’ll wake up in the African bush before heading back to the main town.
Our last day is all about relaxing in nature. An oasis in the middle of the bushland. The Maji Moto (Hot Springs) trip will be sure to be one of your favorite places out of the whole trip!
In the evening, we’ll head out for a meal to celebrate our last evening together.
Day 14: Fly Home
We’ll say our farewells on the final day, before heading back to the airport.
