More about your trip

Day 1-3: Arrival in Tanzania

Your sustainable adventure starts here! On day 1 you’ll be picked up from the airport and driven to the town, where you’ll meet the Green Light Ventures team, and the other people who you’ll be spending your time with. You’ll have a Swahili lesson, learn more about the local culture and practices, and get settled into your group.

On day 3 we’ll travel to the village (where you’ll be spending the majority of your time). On our cultural village walk we’ll learn about the rural way of Tanzanian life and try and spot the first of the area’s amazing wildlife!

Kids PLayground.JPG

Day 4-6: Project Build & Maasai Experience

Jump feet first into your first bit of project work. Work alongside some of the community members in your village to improve their way of life. You may work on a playground for a local school, or a chicken coop to provide income. You’ll work in your group (alongside your project managers for guidance and advice) to implement the small development project.

You’ll also delve deep into the Maasai culture with a fantastic combination of cultural adventures including; visiting a traditional Maasai Market and a village visit with ceremony and Maasai style BBQ. You will get to learn survival skills, bush craft and take part in Olympic-style games with Maasai warriors.

Cycle ride lake manyara.JPG

Day 7-8: Adventure & Relaxation time

After a few days project work, it’s time to start on the adventure! You’ll head out on a cycle safari through our nearby national park. You’ll ride past zebra, wildebeest and antelope and look out for flamingoes when you get to the lakeside.

The next day will offer the chance to wander around the village and local markets and relax by the pool!

Volunteer sapling tree.JPG

Day 9-10: It’s time to sink your carbon with Project Plant!

Your expedition with GLV is not complete until you plant at least 50 trees through Project Plant. In our first chance to do this, you’ll work together with our Maasai women to help to reforest a vital wildlife corridor between two of Tanzania’s National Parks.

Project Plastic.JPG

Day 11: Project Plastic

We’ll be lucky enough to be staying close to an elephant crossing point. Sadly plastic litter has built up here, so we’ll be working with the community to clear the plastic away and re-purposing it into something that can be used locally. Like this hanging herb garden, which provided income for a nearby school.

Day 12-13: Safari and Wildlife Spotting!

Head out on your one day (option to add another day too!) Safari to spot some of the greatest wildlife game on earth. Experience the amazing contrasts of environments and breathtaking scenery of Lake Manyara’s National Park and experience Tarangire's "Elephants paradise" to try and tick off most of the Big Five.

If you don’t choose to add a second day of Safari, you’ll have the choice of wildlife spotting or some free time.

Day 14: Free time with optional trip to Arusha town

A chance to relax by the pool, wander around local markets, or head back into Arusha town to pick up some supplies.

Peace sign Manyara view.JPG

Day 15-16: Project Plant

We’ll do some more tree planting, this time at a local school! Through Project Plant, the school will receive a small income long term, that they can put towards school supplies!

We’ll head out on a trek in the African Bush. You’ll learn about how locals make the most of the materials around them, for food and medicine.

In the evening we’ll head out to a local Maasai village. They’ll welcome us with one of their famous dances, and you might be asked to take part in it too! They’ll teach us how to start a fire using the materials around us and then we’ll sleep under the incredible African stars. We’ll share stories and food around the fire and then drift off to the distant sound of lions roaring and hyenas cackling (don’t worry, the Maasai Warriors will keep us all safe!).

Waterfalls Walk.JPG

Day 21: Waterfall jungle trek

This incredible hike up through the Great Rift Valley will be worth it when we reach the top. We’ll hike up through banana platations and along the river to reach the unexpected waterfalls with a spectacular view over the African Bush. Look out for monkeys, baboons and birdlife on the way!

Project Plastic.JPG

Day 22-24: Project Work

Time for some more project work! Depending on the needs of the community at the time, we’ll do some more work on Project Plastic, Project Build or Project Plant.

During this period, there will also be the chance to have free time

We’ll clear away some more plastic from the animal walkways, and think of some creative ways to re-purpose it! You’ll work with the local community to come up with ideas, and create something useful for them.
